Coheed and Cambria have reunited with drummer Josh Eppard, and have entered the studio to begin work on their sixth studio album.

"As the songs for the new record began twisting into shape, it slowly became apparent that these songs were very dynamic, and could truly flourish with the groove-oriented approach that Josh naturally brings to the table," the band commented. "We also missed Josh as a person -what he meant to us as friends and the energy and humor he exudes. But this isn’t about nostalgia; it’s about who we are now, and what we can achieve musically and as a family, together going forward."

The group is currently in Applehead Studios in Woodstock, New York with Michael Birnbaum and Chris Bittner.

Coheed and Cambria drummer Chris Pennie (ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan, Return to Earth), who joined the group in 2007, has quit the band.

Says Pennie, "I am very thankful for the times I shared the stage with the guys in Coheed and especially want to thank the amazing, supportive fans that I've met while on tour. There are a lot of exciting projects on the horizon in addition to Return To Earth and Fight Mannequins that I feel require 100 percent of my commitment and attention. I feel that this is the right time to make that happen."

Coheed and Cambria's cover of ZZ Top's "Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers" is streaming at Altpress.com.

The track will appear on ZZ Top: A Tribute From Friends, due October 11th via Show Dog/Universal.

Coheed and Cambria announced that they have parted ways with bassist Michael Todd, and have begun work on writing a new album.

"After a lot of thought, introspection and discussion, Coheed and Cambria will be continuing our journey without bassist Michael Todd," the band commented via Tumblr. "We have spoken to him and this is a mutual decision between both parties. Michael was a great contributor; our hearts go out to his family and to all those who appreciate his talents. We wish him nothing but the very best."

Coheed and Cambria bassist Michael Todd was arrested for robbing a Massachusetts Walgreens of prescription painkillers, hours before the band was set to open for Soundgarden in Mansfield, MA yesterday.

According to police, Todd demanded Oxycontin, and told the pharmacist that he had a bomb.

He left with six bottles of painkillers in a taxi, which was later tracked down by police.

Soundgarden has added a couple more dates to its North American tour, featuring legs of dates with Coheed and Cambria, The Mars Volta, and a pair of shows with Queens Of The Stone Age. Newly added stops include Lake Tahoe, NV and Calgary, AB. The revised itinerary follows:
