In January 2009 I received an email from a friend that said "Hey Ryan, I know this band from Australia. They're going to be in L.A. this May recording with Steve Evetts (Every Time I Die, The Dillinger Escape Plan); can they stay at your place?"
My initial response was hell fucking no -- what am I, a Holiday Inn? But then I looked at the crusty grime at the bottom of my toilet seat and thought...maybe it wouldn't be so bad to have five Australian maids.
So the agreement was: the five dudes could stay at my place free for two months while recording with Steve IF they vacuumed, cleaned every day, and cooked me gourmet dinners on occasion. And they couldn't sleep with my two female roommates.
Let me tell you, these motherfuckers were the worst maids I've ever had in my life. They never cleaned, and only made me dinner once -- which was delicious by the way. And though they never slept with my roomies, I caught two of them giving me the eye a few times. Awkward.
There are some cool things though that have come out of my experience with these five Aussie musicians. Aside from them introducing me to Vegemite -- my newest guilty pleasure -- these dudes have created one of the most brutal recordings to be put on disc in the past year. If kangaroos and crocs tortured themselves in a jungle gym, it would be called Coma Lies NC.
Without further ranting, I present an exclusive Ryan's Rock Show album stream of Coma Lies NC's debut offering, "The Great Western Basin". These guys have shared the stage with Parkway Drive, Bring Me The Horizon, and The Bled, and will be touring the U.S. in late 2010.
Stream the entire album below.
G'day, mate.
