"[Ryan] how old are you now? Did you like music when you were 16? So what the fuck...A band that you wanted to see...they came to your town and you couldn't see them because you weren't 21 -- doesn't that seem a little disgusting?"

Ian MacKaye, Fugazi

Hello, welcome to the baddest site on the internet, Ryan's Rock Show. If you’re reading this page, you're looking for a little FYI on the site. The Ryan's Rock Show story is as follows…

THE STORY

My name is Ryan Minic. I look like this:

I grew up on a farm outside Columbus, Ohio, graduated high school in 2003, and immediately moved out to L.A. when I turned 18 because…well, Ohio sucks! I quit college after my first semester to tour in a band, then I quit touring because I was poor as shit and was eating Ramen noodles for breakfast everyday.

In 2006, I was so broke that I had to live at LAX (the airport) for a month. When TSA realized that I had made their terminals my sleeping grounds, they kicked me out -- so I moved to the Greyhound station in downtown Los Angeles.

After scoring a shitty job making $8 dollars an hour as a telemarketer -- and getting dumped by several hot ass girls because I was homeless -- I realized that I was a pretty big loser and needed to turn around my life Tony Robbins style. As a result, Ryan’s Rock Show was created.

Ryan’s Rock Show was formed in December 2006 as an online radio show. My goal was to meet cool people who loved music, so I would go around interviewing local L.A. bands and would post the interviews online from a public library or an internet cafe.

In the summer of 2007, interviewing local bands got super lame, so I set out to start working with touring bands -- bands that I grew up listening to and admired. I sent every label on the planet emails begging them to let me interview their bands. I would lie, promise them hookers, and tell them that a shitload of people actually listened to my show. Of course no one cared at first. But then randomly one band (I’m not going to say names because I’m pretty sure they hate me now) decided to suck it up and come on the show. Then everything started taking off, and Ryan's Rock Show evolved into what it is today.

SO WTF IS RYAN'S ROCK SHOW?

Ryan’s Rock Show is a website that features daily news, weekly interviews, and exclusive shit with prominent rock bands. There’s not really a specific criteria as to what bands are covered on this site; I pretty much pick what bands I think kick ass and do shit with them.

Everything on the site is run by me. My roommate, Dorothy, helps me film the interviews.

The site is run out of a house in North Hollywood, CA (I'm no longer at the Greyhound!) in which I converted into a studio. I invite bands to come over, drink beer, and chat about music (as seen below with Rx Bandits). I don't like to ask stupid bullshit questions off a sheet of paper.

Sometimes if a band can't schedule coming to the studio, we’ll meet on location somewhere like a cafe (see below pic with Sonny).

OBJECTIVES, PRINCIPLES, STUFF I HATE

Ryan's Rock Show is about DIY, creating a community, good music, genuine art. I hate big corporations like Wal-Mart, McDonalds, Halliburton, Comcast. I hate when bands heavily rely on technology to create records, and then sound super shitty live. I also hate rock star attitudes, the public relations industry, and bands that only play music in hopes of getting signed.

NAME DROPPING

Over the past few years, the following bands have done interviews and have been a part of Ryan’s Rock Show:  Glassjaw, Ian MacKaye (Fugazi, Minor Threat), Every Time I Die, GWAR, Alien Ant Farm, Brian "Head" Welch (ex-Korn), DevilDriver, Soulfly, Converge, Clutch, Rx Bandits, From First To Last, Circa Survive, The Locust, The Fall of Troy, The Red Chord, Hatebreed, Poison The Well, Ross Robinson, Cave In, CKY, Horse The Band, The Black Dahlia Murder…the list goes on and on.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO NOW, HOW TO USE THIS SITE, GETTING IN CONTACT

You should immediately bookmark this site and check back daily for band news, interviews, and exclusive features. You can also use the search page to find tours dates, videos, and current happenings of your favorite bands. I'm pretty good at responding to emails, so if you need to get in contact to suggest a band, submit news, send dirty pics, etc., you can do so on the contact page -- those emails go straight to my Blackberry.
