Can you believe it’s been a year since the passing of Deftones bassist Chi Cheng? In honor of their fallen member the band put out a previously unreleased song over the weekend from their shelved album Eros.
Will they be doing more shows this year? We’re not sure. But we do know that initial writing sessions have begun for a new Deftones record. We hear that they’re plotting a 2015 release for a follow up to Koi No Yokan, and right now they’re just getting out the ideas.
Since we mentioned Quicksand’s Walter Schreifels in our last post, we have to retell his story about the first time he saw Deftones. “I just thought [Deftones] sounded like a Rage Against The Machine-type thing; I didn’t check it out too much [until they invited us on tour]. Then I saw them and was like ‘fuck man, I’m done with heavy music — these guys are taking it to another level.’ ”
As the new year approaches, we’re getting closer to the release date of the debut album from ††† (Crosses).
