Slipknot Returns to Stage for First Time Since Bassist’s Death

by | Jun 17, 2011

Slipknot returned to the stage today for the first time since the death of bassist Paul Gray, performing at Sonisphere in Athens, Greece.

The band marked its return wearing red jumpsuits and masks from its self-titled album, with Gray’s jumpsuit standing at the back of the stage.

“As you know, tonight is a very emotional show for us but it is not, NOT, a negative day,” vocalist Corey Taylor told the crowd. “It is a positive day. A day for celebration. This is our first show – with you.”

Donnie Steele, the group’s original guitarist, is currently handling bass duties for the band.

Slipknot will perform at Sonisphere festival dates throughout Europe over the next few weeks.
