Cosgrove reflected on the band’s breakout success with Anthology and the unexpected impact of their "Smooth Criminal" cover, which led to mainstream crossover and even recognition from members of the Jackson family. He admitted they never anticipated selling over a million records and that industry pressures following their success were difficult to navigate. The band struggled with label shifts, the decline of record sales, and the challenge of maintaining momentum after their debut album’s explosive reception.
He also touched on the 2002 bus accident in Spain, which had a major impact on the band’s trajectory. Though they tried to move forward without letting it define them, it affected their creative direction and mental well-being more than they initially realized.
Outside of Alien Ant Farm, Cosgrove has focused on producing, working with younger bands, and mentoring musicians. He expressed his passion for fostering new talent and emphasized the importance of staying true to artistic integrity over chasing commercial success.
