Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Interview: The Mars Volta & Bosnian Rainbows

“It’s loud in there,” says Omar Rodriguez-Lopez in a dark alley behind the Troubadour. It’s a cool autumn evening in West Hollywood and inside the venue they’re sound-checking for the first Bosnian Rainbows L.A. show, a new project spearheaded by the renowned Mars Volta/At The Drive-In guitarist. While his new band is set to make their L.A. debut tonight, and with dozens of fans lined up at the front of the venue hours before the sold-out performance, Rodriguez-Lopez is calm and focused. His immediate task: to find a quiet place to do this interview. “Do you guys know the area?” he asks, peaking around the dimly-lit street corner.

Lostprophets Interview: Ian Watkins on the Sound of Weapons

“I was thinking I was a big buff guy that wanted to fight people at every show,” Ian Watkins jokes.

On a hot August evening outside a restaurant on the Sunset Strip, the Lostprophets frontman tells stories of Public Disturbance, a mid-90s UK hardcore band who he drummed for. He says shows during that era were “a bunch of cool times” and remembers being in a two-man mosh pit for Vision of Disorder. “It was a good vibe.”

Thrice: The Ryan’s Rock Show Interview

During the band’s infancy in the late 90s, Thrice would perform at any shows they could get. “We played at a SeaWorld [parking lot],” guitarist Teppei Teranishi laughs, speaking candidly in the green room of Los Angeles’ Mayan Theater. “We had to turn our amps down. We were literally told that we were scaring the whales.”

Korn Interview on Ryan’s Rock Show: Drummer Ray Luzier Remembers Who He Is

Back in the prehistoric days when neanderthals like Geocities and MP3.com walked the net, Korn was the baddest band in the world. When I was in the 7th grade, I would go to my Catholic grade school non-uniform days strictly in Korn attire, and would scream “Faget” lyrics during recess at the cool kids playing with Nerf footballs. I’d also go to middle school dances with over-sized JNCO Jeans knockoffs, a Korn beanie, and those lame-looking ball chain chokers that hot girls were never really that into. Oh, how the times have changed.
