Black Map (Dredg) Have a New Album Coming + they’re Going on Tour

by | Jun 4, 2014

You know Dredg played a show once with Salman Rushdie? It was at a bookstore in New York in 2009 and guitarist Mark Engles told us it’s been one of the highlights of the band’s career. “One of the brilliant minds of this world,” he said. “Salman Rushdie.”

And while this may not be as exciting as collaborating with Rushdie himself, it’s thrilling to us — Engles’ new band Black Map are currently at work on a full-length debut album. The group, which also features ex-members of Far and The Trophy Fire, began tracking their record last month at Hellam Sound in Oakland, CA. Right now they’re plotting a fall release through Minus Head Records.

This summer the band will head out on their first tour ever, supporting Chevelle on a West Coast run. They’ll be playing songs off their debut EP, Driver, and presumably some new tunes, yea?

Here’s some footage of the Dredg/Rushdie performance from fall ’09.
