You know Fugazi charged no more than $5 for each show they ever played? That’s quite a bargain if you ask us; no wonder we like house shows so much! A couple years ago when we sat down for an interview with Baroness, they told us about the first time they saw the legendary DIY band.
Caleb Shomo is everywhere these days — producing bands, playing in Beartooth. It’s going to be one hectic summer for him too, as the Tooth will be on Warped Tour for the trek’s entire duration. Prepare for lots of crowd surfing like the guy above ^^
When we interviewed Between The Buried And Me a couple years ago, guitarist Paul Waggoner told us all about his old band with Tommy Rogers called Prayer for Cleansing. Lots of rad basement shows, he said. And while you won’t be seeing BTBAM in a basement anytime soon, you will be seeing them on a huge North American tour with Meshuggah this spring.
We try to make sure we see HRVRD play every time they come through LA. Unfortunately on their tour that kicks off tonight they won’t be coming out West, so we’ll have to get our fix with FaceTime sessions and YouTube videos. Last year when the band was on tour through Cali we heard stories of them camping at Mono Lake and getting up early for the sunrise. Wakey, wakey, eggs and bakey!
Ya know the house show we did with Barrows last year? Oh how rad that was! It was right before they entered the studio to track their new album with Toshi Kasai (Melvins, Tool), a follow-up to their 2011 debut Imprecari Island. The bummer: they wouldn’t let us hear any new songs. 🙁
